Off the Hook in Highlands, NJ - I have dined there multiple times and it’s usually a fantastic experience. However, my visit today left me a bit disappointed.**Food:**
We ordered the crab dip, nachos with chicken, chicken fingers, and tuna bites. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to its usual high standard.
- **Crab Dip:** It was watery, far from the creamy consistency I’ve come to expect.
- **Nachos with Chicken:** The nachos were disappointing. They lacked the usual burst of flavors and were simply not tasty.
- **Chicken Fingers:** The chicken fingers were decent, as expected, but nothing extraordinary.
- **Tuna Bites:** In my experience, tuna bites are typically seasoned on all sides, adding a rich flavor. This time, they were under-seasoned
making them less tasty than they should have been.
**Service:**
Despite the food issues, the wait staff remained friendly and attentive, as they always are. Their excellent service was a bright spot in the overall experience.
**Ambiance:**
The atmosphere is consistently great. It’s a cozy place with a lively vibe. Today was no different in that aspect – the decor and setting were inviting as always.
**Cleanliness:**
The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, as usual, which I appreciate.
**Overall Experience:**
While Off the Hook is generally a gem in Highlands, my latest visit didn’t quite meet my expectations. I hope it was just an off day for the kitchen because I know they can do better. For example, I used to order their Chilean sea bass and it was always impressive but it is not on their current menu, Despite this experience, I still look forward to my next visit and hope it will be back to their usual excellent standards. I recommend giving them a try, as their track record is usually good.
